Why?
The Door
County Gift Certificate program started in August of 1999, in response to an
overwhelming amount of requests we received from Visitors and Residents who
were interested in purchasing a universal gift certificate that
could be used at a variety of local businesses throughout the county. Since
then, the gift certificate program has grown tremendously.
Need some
facts and figures to sell you on the program? Giving the gift of Door
County has proved to be very popular among our guests and residents but, are
you aware that Door County Gift Certificates have become popular in
corporate circles? Each year we receive orders from large companies
who give each of their employees a Door County Gift Certificate for the
holidays and, we've even had luxury car dealerships give away our Gift
Certificates with a bona fide test drive.
From January 1st, 2005 through December 31st,
2005, we issued 8,639 Door County Gift Certificates with a total value of
$120,964.00!
Each Certificate is issued with a list of
current participants and a directive to "Visit
www.DoorCounty.com for the most
up-to-date list of businesses that will accept Door County Gift
Certificates." Without a doubt, this is one of the main reasons our
Gift Certificate page is one of the most visited pages on our site.
Not only does this put your business in front of potential customers but, as
a participant, the name of your business is hyperlinked to your own website
or InnLine page to "seal the deal".
As a
member, you have the opportunity to participate in and benefit from the Door
County Gift Certificate program. Participating businesses are listed on a
form that accompanies every gift certificate, so people receiving the gift
of Door County know where they can purchase goods and/or services.
Participating businesses are also listed and receive a free link on a gift
certificate information page that is located on our main web site,
www.DoorCounty.com. The gift certificate program is available
exclusively to member businesses.
What does it cost
to participate?
There is no
cost to participate in the program. Participating businesses redeem the
certificates at the Door County Visitor Bureau for 97% of the face
value (similar to a credit card transaction). The other 3% is used by the
Chamber for administering the program (paper, bookkeeping, postage, etc.).
Customers presenting gift certificates in payment of goods and/or services
will not receive a refund when the purchase price is less than the face
value of the gift certificate. In that scenario, participating businesses
may give the customer a credit for future use at their business.
When
participating businesses receive gift certificates as payment, they simply
endorse the back and send it or drop it off at the Door County Visitor
Bureau office in
Sturgeon Bay. We’ll then promptly cut a check for the appropriate amount
and send it back to the business. It’s that simple.
On-going
promotion of the Door County gift certificate program includes info on
DoorCounty.com, ads in the Official Door County Visitor Guide, the Winter Activity Guide, Newspaper Ads and
more. As more businesses sign up and participate in the program, the gift
certificates will become even more popular due to the wide variety and shear
number of Door County businesses where the gift certificates can be
redeemed.
