Chamber e-Reminder

Now it’s our turn

Convincing out-of-town guests that there is plenty to do, between the leaves and the snow, is an un-daunting task but the Crew of the Christmas Schooner succeeded in drawing a considerable crowd over the holiday week-end.   Without their efforts, we certainly wouldn’t have enjoyed the business we saw last week and, hopefully, this week will benefit too.  So, with that said, now it’s our turn to show our appreciation.  Ticket sales are going well for this week-end but, rumor has it, there are plenty of excellent seats still remaining.  If you haven’t ventured out to see this show, this is a great opportunity to catch the Holiday Spirit AND show your support as well.  We hope to see you there!  (and remember, you can print out more posters HERE)

You can check out the Review in the Door County Compass: http://www.doorcountycompass.com/theater/041127schooner.htm

Tickets for the 2nd annual Door County holiday performances of the Christmas Schooner are available on-line, by phone and in person from the Door Community Auditorium box office in Fish Creek, Wisconsin - 920.868.2728.

Wisconsin’s “No Call” List

If you were among the first to register your number, it’s time to register again.  To keep the list fairly accurate, the State will only hold your number for two years before you have to register again.   On a similar note, if you know of a vulnerable friend, neighbor or family member who could be intimidated by telemarketers – please, take the time to ask if you could help register them as well.

The list is free and available for residential telephone customers throughout Wisconsin. Your number will remain on the List for two years and adding your residential phone number to the List will help reduce (but not eliminate) telemarketing calls to your home.

You can sign up 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year:

¡¡è                                 By visiting the Wisconsin No Call List website by clicking here.

¡¡è                                 By calling 1-866-9NO-CALL (1-866-966-2255) toll-free in Wisconsin.

For more information about the No Call List, check out their website at: nocall.wisconsin.gov

How do twinkling Christmas lights flash?

I thought you would never ask – and no e-Reminder would be complete without a little bit of information that will never earn you a dime.   After looking into this lifelong mystery, it turns out the elves (work with me here) bond together two different kinds of metal (each with a different rate of expansion when heated) and place it on one side of the filament inside the bulb.  When the bulb is on, the heat causes the bonded metal strips to curve away from the connection and voilá! - the light turns off.  (okay, stay with me) As the metal cools, the bimetal strip straightens out; the connection is made and, the cycle starts all over again.

 So, now you know!

That should really give you plenty to think about for now.  If you have any questions or comments, let me know.  If you just want to throw around ideas or, talk about different marketing opportunities, I’m here for that too.  Remember to check the member’s website for new stuff: www.doorcountychamber.org and, I can’t believe more of you aren’t taking advantage of the online store at: www.doorcounty.com

(If it sounds complicated, you’ve misunderstood something.)

Most of all, get out and see the show; make sure you take the time to shop locally and, don’t forget to support our local non-profits before you send your support out of the area.

Happy Middle of the Week, then.

Sincerely,

Phil
