Chamber e-Reminder
As the evening air grows crisp and cool it’s time to take advantage of our star filled skies – which only begins to underscore the importance of proper lighting and becoming aware of light pollution links at your home or business but, I digress. It’s time to start looking out for Northern Lights! Not only does Labor Day mark the beginning of School, it also announces the peak season to view the Aurora Borealis - and the stage is set for a brilliant display this week-end. Why September? I’m glad you asked. As the Earth makes it way through space, it’s the tilt of our axis that causes the change of seasons. As we approach the Autumnal Equinox (September 22nd this year) the Earth’s magnetic field is parted like hairs on a head at the poles, causing beautiful displays of Northern Lights. Unfortunately, these stronger solar winds can wreaks havoc on telecommunication satellites and electrical grids. Fortunately, it takes 3 days for one of these flares to reach Earth so we have ample warning. If you notice an unusual amount of static on your cell phone, radio or TV, you might want to stick your head outside just after dark. If you don’t see anything to the north, check again before you go to bed – if it’s still quite, check the next night - you’ll be glad you did.
While I haven’t had time to put together a proper page together on this subject, I have been collecting some pretty good forecast links on a page that can be found on the Members’ Site in the Blue Column on the left under “Helpful Links”, called “Northern Lights”. http://www.DoorCountyVisitorBureau.org/NorthernLights.htm Let me know if you get to see them! Phil Using Branding to Your Advantage There’s no disputing the power of a Brand. A successful branding campaign will soon create a Pavlovian-like response in your target market that will automatically make them think of you – without even trying. In the olden days, when dad’s would make their weary children get up off the floor to change the dial on the television set, our main drive was convenience. When e-mail was first introduced (before the turn of the century) many of us sat down at our first keyboard and used the “search and peck” method to hammer out a simple note to the 3 other people we knew online – and, the shorter the e-mail address, the better. With the overwhelming amount of information online today, it pays to be “Clear and Concise” and, this is where branding comes into play.
Because my e-mail address is: Phil@DoorCounty.com I get a lot of people who pause and start to smile when they realize how easy that is to remember. I’m Phil and I’m in Door County – it doesn’t get much clearer. Additionally, I receive notes from people who see my address and volunteer that they LOVE to go to Door County or, they have friends or family who always go to Door County – it always amazes me. Without a doubt, our Chamber’s campaign to “brand” Door County as a single destination has built a tremendous amount of recognition in the public’s eye and those two words have become synonymous with the charm and beauty that abounds here - so, why not take advantage of it?
So, I says to myself, I says: If this format works for me, would it be possible to offer that same convenience to our members? And, the answer is YES!
As a member of the Door County Chamber, we are now able to create a branded alias e-mail address for your business. It’s called an “Alias” because all the mail sent to this address will go directly into your existing e-mail account – it does not replace your account – nothing changes – your current address remains active – this address is strictly a forwarding address.
If you have any questions or would like to request your DoorCounty.com address, send me an e-mail with your official business name and the e-mail address that you would like your e-mail forwarded on to. It’s that easy! What are you waiting for? phil@doorcounty.com
