Chamber e-Reminder

How are Chamber Dues calculated?

I was just on the phone with one of our members when I realized that, unless you were following the links to join our Chamber, you wouldn’t know where to look to calculate your dues amount.

To find our dues schedule online, follow the “Joining Our Chamber” link on the entrance page of www.DoorCountyChamber.org and clicking on “Dues Structure”.

Here’s the direct link: http://www.doorcountychamber.org/Chamber_Membership_Information/chamber_membership_costs.htm

Most of all, we appreciate your support.

Our organization relies exclusively upon the collection of dues and the sale of services to market Door County as a premier travel destination.   While we still need to keep our eye on sustainability, tourism is still the greatest “smokeless industry” to fuel the Door County economy.   And, without it, a community of this size would never have access to the number of cultural and natural activities we are afforded, nor would we have enough jobs to support even the smallest of populations.

Over one hundred years ago, our business community realized they could never survive without the influx of the traveling public.  Door County would never be a stop “along the way” so they needed to reach out and market Door County as a travel Destination and, it could never be achieved if each business had to do it alone.

Our Dues are Expensive – or, are they?  Did you know that prior to the recent adoption of a room tax, members of the Wisconsin Dells Chamber paid 3% of their Gross – Each Year!   Because they keep loosing customers to “puberty”, their members still contribute 1% of their Gross to fuel the need to continually find new customers – over 8 million dollars!.

On the other hand, for the cost of a single classified ad in the Tribune, most of our members receive a full year of benefits while strengthening our efforts to promote Door County as a travel destination.   Your support is vital to our success and we do everything we can to maximize the return on your investment.  If we didn’t have your support, who would be working to attract visitors to Door County?  No one creates more promotion for Door County than your Chamber of Commerce and we will continue to do our very best on your behalf.

We are strongest with EVERYONE on board and we really appreciate your support!

If you or someone you know, has any questions about our organization, please contact me or visit our members’ site at: www.DoorCountyChamber.org

I’m here to help in any way I can.

Sincerely,

Phil

A little history:

In my office hangs the original declarations of association of the Business Men’s Association of the City of Sturgeon Bay (BMACSB?) signed on April 8th, 1891.   In 1915, they changed their name to the Sturgeon Bay Commercial Club.   On April 21st, 1916, the Club discussed the need to advertise in the City Papers and it was decided to spend $20 in the Chicago Tribune and $50 in the Chicago Herald.   In 1921, the name was changed to the Sturgeon Bay Chamber of Commerce and on May 26th, 1924, the organization voted to change the name to The Door County Chamber of Commerce.   And, another signed on the 16th of June, 1952, acknowledging the creation of the Door County Chamber of Commerce for the “Purpose of securing the cooperation of all classes of people in the community for the promotion of the commercial, industrial and public interests; etc.”
