Publication Redesign for 2007 Your publications committee has been hard at work implementing changes to keep our publications fresh, useful and on top of our market and, this year’s edition of the Vacation Planner is proof of that! Over recent years, there has been much debate about the usefulness of publishing both a Vacation Planner and a Go-Guide and it has been decided that 2006 will be the last edition of the separate Go-Guide. In 2007 our goal is to combine these publications into one complete marketing piece that will not only woo the traveling public into visiting Door County but will give them the tools and inspiration to explore our entire peninsula and all it has to offer. That said, if you have plans to update your display ads anytime soon, you might want to hold off while we work out the details.
InnLine, InnLine on the Web When was the last time you looked at your InnLine Pages? Okay, on the count of 3, go find your InnLine Pages on www.DoorCounty.com (go ahead, I’ll wait here) Does the main photo still look like your business? If you were reading the introduction through the eyes of a new visitor, would you go there? Are the links to your website and e-mail still working? Is it the correct e-mail address?
How about the additional pages? You should have 5 pictures – 1 on the front and 4 on the additional photo page. Are you selling the experience? Even if you’re a shop, you should still be painting the experience of visiting your shop, etc. How about the Additional Information? Today’s traveler is online, looking at your InnLine page because they want information – all of the information. The old idea that people will call if you leave their questions unanswered is past! And, the idea that they will call if you don’t post an e-mail address – don’t kid yourself. Some of the hours of highest use on our website are before 6:am and after 9:00:pm – and, if they’re using dial-up, they can’t call you anyway. In all honesty, I’ve only received a couple calls from members that questioned the effectiveness of InnLine and, by no coincidence, none of them offered an e-mail address in their contact information.
The web is a powerful tool but, if you don’t maintain it, it can be your worst enemy. If you ever need help updating your InnLine or Business Directory information, please don’t hesitate to contact Cathy Lynch at: cathy@doorcounty.com or by calling the Chamber at: (920)743-6663 or 868-3521 at ext. 812

Time for a new Web Site Speaking of maintaining your web presence, you will find a whole new look and feel on DoorCounty.com this Spring! While our current site was recognized for it’s usefulness in a recent study by Purdue University, it’s time to start anew. We have contracted with http://www.AristotleWebDesign.com/ to accomplish this with targeted launch date for this April. Your Internet committee has put a lot of work into this process to make it the best it can be.
Speaking of Change Congratulations to our Publications Director as she has managed to produce one of our finest Vacation Planners to date, put the Winter Activity Guide into our hands a month earlier than ever; completed the RFP and coordination of the selection process for the firm doing our website makeover; started the layout for the 2006 Go-Guide AND, got married! ALL AT THE SAME TIME!!! If you need to reach “Ann Barnard” you’ll find her information under Ann Birnschein. Luckily, you will still find her at extension 808 when you call and, her e-mail is still: ann@doorcounty.com
So, you see, it’s true – the more things change, the more they stay the same. Congratulations Ann & Bryan!
P.S. For those of you with sophisticated SPAM Blockers, you might need to change your e-mail address information to reflect the change to avoid any problem with receipt of her mail.
State Banner Ad Program On Tuesday, January 10th, representatives from the State's Banner Ad Program paid a visit to explain the marketing opportunities available to you - at the reduced prices negotiated by the Wisconsin Dept of Tourism.
For your convenience, we’ve posted the program on our website at: http://www.doorcountychamber.org/Marketing/WisconsinCoopProgram.htm
If you have access to broadband Internet service, we have posted a video of the January 10th presentation for you to view online. The file is a Windows Media Format (177 MB). http://www.doorcountychamber.org/Education/AdSeminar1-10-2006.wmv (you may also contact Stephanie Fox at: sfox@boelterlincoln.com with any questions about this program)
