Chamber e-Reminder
Valentine’s Week-end We’ve had so much success with the holiday events lists that we’ve decided to do it for Valentine’s Day Week-end – Woohoo! If your business is offering something special to your customers on Valentine’s Day or over the Valentine’s Day Week-end – I want to know. Send me an e-mail at: phil@doorcounty.com I’m thinking outside of the box here but…. If you are a retailer and, you have something that you think would make a great Valentine Gift, I’d like to hear about it. If I can get a list going, I’ll post it on the member’s website. I reserve the right to change the idea but, at this point, this is what I am looking for: I will accept up to 2 entries for women and/or 2 entries for men from each member retailer. Please include a brief description of the item and the price with your name and contact information. If you have a picture, e-mail that too. Retail members, this is your chance – let’s make this happen. phil@doorcounty.com ”What do you people do in the Winter?” Holy Cats! If you need some ideas – and, even if you don’t - you should check out the cool programs going on this time of year. And, most of them are FREE! Many of these programs are posted on our Member’s Site at: www.DoorCountyChamber.org but, if you’re looking for a convenient list to answer questions for quests or customers, the Staff of your Visitor Center has created a great "Cheat Sheet" for upcoming events… and, they thought you might like a copy. Cheat Sheet If you know of something going on and, it’s not listed, please let us know: phil@doorcounty.com Protecting our Natural Resources Let’s face it, if it wasn’t for this beautiful peninsula, we’d be sunk – literally! During my last visit to the Library, I noticed a yellow directory entitled “Directory of Door County Environmental Organizations”. This snappy publication was created by the League of Women Voters of Door County and it must be the most complete listing of its kind. Inside, you’ll find contact information as well as a resume of goals, resources and successes to help decide where you can get involved.
If you would like a copy, they are available from League members for $1.00. Send $2.00 to the League at: PO Box 306 Sturgeon Bay WI 54235-0306 and they’ll send you one. To make it even more accessible, we asked the League if we could post it on our website so, here it is: http://www.doorcountychamber.org/environmentalorganizations.htm
(Maybe you would like to buy a box of them to distribute yourself – hint, hint) Time to Post your Job Openings for Summer I will be beating this drum until everyone has done it. It takes time to coordinate housing and visa needs so, don't under-estimate the power of posting early. PlayandWork.org and JobsInDoorCounty.com were created by the Workforce Development Committee to help bring Employers and Employees together. Not only does it help streamline this process for our local workforce but, its Internet accessibility opens the scope of prospects to the entire world. If you have not posted positions on the site, we need you to do it. If you need any help, simply contact phil@doorcounty.com or sam@doorcountybusiness.com to walk you through it.
Ultimately, it is your participation that makes all of this work. This site is promoted to Colleges and Job Search sites throughout the Midwest and the World but, if there aren’t any opportunities available when a potential employee logs on, we are going to loose them. Logon and Post your employment opportunities today.
Harvesting Wind Energy Could Door County supply a significant percentage of the electricity we use – without the problems of mercury pollution and all the other pollutions from coal fired power plants? Could wind power be good for investors, as well as good for land owners? On Wednesday, February 9th, at the Forestville Town Hall in Maplewood, 7PM, DCEC’s Renewable Energy Task Force is sponsoring a public presentation on the subject. Please, plan to attend.
Do you offer Internet Access to your guests? Many of our visitors are on vacation but, still require having hands on access when they are out of the office. If you offer Internet Access to your guests, please drop Debbie a note at: phil@doorcounty.com so we can update our records.
Foreign Employees I am collecting informational links (and words of wisdom) from members who have successfully employed international employees. More specifically, what do employers need to know and what do we need to tell our potential employees from overseas.
If you have links or personal experiences to offer, please e-mail me at: phil@doorcounty.com Your assistance would be greatly appreciated. Check out our “Guide to Hiring Foreign Employees” at: www.DoorCountyChamber.org
What’s Going On Remember to check out the Member News on DoorCountyChamber.org for the latest Press Releases and Ready-to-Print event posters. Not only will they keep you informed but, you can easily link them into your own website to inspire your customers to pay you a visit – or to just help get the word out. The success of these events help EVERYONE! Fish Creek Winter Games – new and improved! The Fish Creek Civic Association has been hard at work to create a mid-winter extravaganza to give the public a great reason to check out our off season. We’ve posted their posters and PR on our member’s site for you to print out; post on your own site; and, e-mail the link to everyone you know. Here’s the link: http://www.doorcountychamber.org/FishCreekWinterGames.htm
2005 Vacation Planners Are Here It’s the top of a new year and our 2005 Vacation Planners are here! Vacation Planners are packed 50 to a box and they can be picked up or dropped off. Either way, contact Carole Counard if you need more than one box: carole@doorcounty.com – if you would like them dropped off at your Door County business location, be sure to include: Your Name; Daytime Telephone Number; Business Name; Physical Address of drop off and How many Boxes you Need.
