Attention Door County Business Owners

Wisconsin’s Joint Finance Committee is currently reviewing the Governor’s proposed budget and will be preparing a budget for proposal to the state legislature.  Governor Doyle’s proposed budget includes $3.8 million for additional tourism marketing.

The Door County Chamber of Commerce & VCB strongly supports this proposed increase in tourism funding.

Please take a few minutes, right now, and let the members of the Joint Finance Committee know that you also support this investment in Wisconsin’s travel and hospitality industry.   (e-mail addresses are listed below sample letter)

Dear______________:

I am writing to ask your support of the $3.8 million tourism marketing proposal in Governor Doyle’s proposed budget.  I appreciate the challenges you face in preparing a fiscally responsible budget for our state.  I believe that the $3.8 million in additional marketing of Wisconsin’s extraordinary travel and hospitality industry will result in an immediate return on that investment.

As Wisconsin’s third largest industry, tourism provides a return on the state’s investment year after year.  In these days of out sourcing and manufacturers moving to other states or countries, tourism is the industry that Wisconsin is guaranteed not to lose, it simply cannot be relocated.  In addition to providing thousands of Wisconsin residents with employment, the travel and hospitality industry constantly creates new entrepreneurial opportunities.

Investing in Wisconsin’s tourism industry is an important step toward solving our fiscal challenges.  In addition to the immediate benefit to state sales tax revenues from increased visitors, economic development throughout the state will benefit as Wisconsin’s premiere recreation facilities are recognized as an asset to businesses throughout Wisconsin and those considering a move to Wisconsin.

Please support the additional investment in tourism marketing.  Thank you for your consideration.

Respectfully,

Joint Committee On Finance
