How does the Door County Visitor Bureau Work?

There are many facets to the work and dedication of the Door County Visitor Bureau to sustained tourism and the promotion of member businesses to our local population and the 2.1 million visitors we welcome to Door County each year.

Let me start with a few words about Visitor Bureaus in general.  All Visitor Bureaus exist to serve the interests of their members but, in Door County, the primary responsibility of the Visitor Bureau is to drive our tourism industry.  Therefore, our most visible work is in the marketing of the entire County to the Traveling Public and helping our visitors find their fun once they’re here.  Because the vibrancy of the business climate is directly tied to the health of our tourism industry, everyone benefits from the Visitor Bureau’s Work.

Here's just a sample of the many ways we are working to promote Door County this summer...

  • Dropped another 97,000 of those Door County inserts from Midwest Living into the homes of targeted subscribers of the Chicago Tribune, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Wisconsin State Journal & St. Paul Pioneer Press

Without question, Door County has an allure all of its own.  With its incredible beauty, state parks, 300 miles of shoreline, 10 lighthouses, dynamic performing and visual arts scene, fabulous shopping and dining, quaint villages & islands, etc., etc. it’s pretty easy to love.  Perhaps the most important work the Visitor Bureau does is maintain the “Top of Mind Awareness” so Door County is the first place that people think of when they think of getting away.  The ads we purchase in newspapers and other print media help, but the relationships we’ve built with travel writers and members of the media, of all sorts, make the idea of coming to Door County come alive.  They love to come here and subsequently get their best stories and pictures for their magazines, books, TV and radio shows.  As I’m sure you know, the sort of credibility one receives in a story - as opposed to an ad - is the kind of positive exposure that no amount of money can buy.

As a member, you are supporting our efforts to promote a healthy local economy and the ideals of sustained tourism through the balance of development and conservation.

If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to contact me directly.  I'm here to help.

Phil
