A Testimonial to the benefits of participation:  The Door County gift certificate program has been a positive benefit of our membership in the DCVB.  The 3% fee is very reasonable when you look at the cost of other advertising that may not produce any results.  With the Door County gift certificates, you don’t pay anything unless someone presents them at your business. Once you have them in the door you have the opportunity to make them into returning, satisfied customers. We have had people who may have never found us, stay with us as a result of their receiving the gift certificates. Once we have them as our guests, they come back again because they enjoyed their experience so much.  It would be great if more of our member businesses would accept the gift certificates.  Our guests have expressed their disappointment when they go into a business to use a gift certificate only to be told that they do not accept them.   We encourage everyone to take a serious look at becoming part of the Door County gift certificate program.

You will be pleasantly surprised.

Why?

The Door County Gift Certificate program started in August of 1999, in response to an overwhelming amount of requests we received from Visitors and Residents who were interested in purchasing a universal gift certificate that could be used at a variety of local businesses throughout the county.  Since then, the gift certificate program has grown tremendously - exceeding $100,000 in sales annually!

Need some facts and figures to sell you on the program?  Giving the gift of Door County has proved to be very popular among our guests and residents but, are you aware that Door County Gift Certificates have become popular in corporate circles?  Each year we receive orders from large companies who give each of their employees a Door County Gift Certificate for the holidays and, we've even had luxury car dealerships give away our Gift Certificates with a bona fide test drive.

Each Certificate is issued with a list of current participants and a directive to "Visit www.DoorCounty.com for the most up-to-date list of businesses that will accept Door County Gift Certificates."  Without a doubt, this is one of the main reasons our Gift Certificate page is one of the most visited pages on our site.  Not only does this put your business in front of potential customers but as a participant, your business is hyperlinked to your own website or InnLine page to "seal the deal".  Given the amount of activity on our Gift Certificate page, it's clear that people who have received DC Gift Certificates take the time to learn about all of their options.  It's a great source of exposure and new business, even if they don't use the certificate in your place of business.

What does it cost to participate?

There is no initial cost to participate in our program.  Upon completion of your Participation Contract, your Business is added to our list of participating businesses with an active hyperlink from the Gift Certificate page on DoorCounty.com.  Upon receipt, simply endorse the back of the certificate and turn them into our office for redemption.  Gift Certificates are redeemable for 97% of the face value (similar to a credit card transaction).  The remaining 3% is used to cover the costs of administering the program (promotion, printing, bookkeeping, postage, etc.).   It’s that simple.

Customers presenting gift certificates in payment of goods and/or services will not receive a refund when the purchase price is less than the face value of the gift certificate.  In that scenario, participating businesses may give the customer a credit for future use at their business.

On-going promotion of the Door County gift certificate program includes info on DoorCounty.com, ads in the Official Door County Visitor Guide, the Winter Activity Guide, Newspaper Ads and more.  As more businesses sign up and participate in the program, the gift certificates will become even more popular due to the wide variety and shear number of Door County businesses where the gift certificates can be redeemed.  Over 235 member businesses currently participate in our program.
